Cavaliers stun listless Lakers

Byron Scott hasn't had much to smile about in his first season as Cleveland Cavaliers head coach. But he's headed home for a brief rest during the NBA All-Star Weekend with his chest stuck out while the LA Lakers limp back looking to regroup.

Ramon Sessions had a season-high 32 points with nine assists, Antawn Jamison added 19 with 10 rebounds and the Cavaliers stunned the road-weary LA Lakers, 104-99 on Wednesday night.

The victory was especially sweet for Scott, who won three NBA Championships with the Lakers in the '80's.

"Sure, it's special. I probably still bleed a little purple and gold," he said. "But when you're going against them you want to win.

"When I go home, especially when I get back to LA, I'm going to walk around with my chest stuck out feeling pretty good about what we accomplished tonight, just like when I walked around pissed when we got beat by about 50. That's how it is."

After snapping their NBA-record 26-game slide against the LA Clippers last week, the Cavaliers avenged a 112-57 road beat down on Jan 11 against the struggling two-time defending NBA Champions Lakers.

"Everybody wrote us off and someone wrote this was going to be a practice game for them," said Cavs Anthony Parker, who finished with 18 points. "The last game played into it as well and it was about pride."

Spanish-native Pau Gasol had 30 points and 20 rebounds, Derek Fisher scored 19 while Kobe Bryant chipped in with 17 for the Lakers (38-19), who finished 4-3 on their road trip.

"Not happy with the way this trip ended," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "We have to go back and fix some things."

Asked if the Lakers were ready for the mid-season break following their third straight loss, Jackson added, "I think they took the break before the game started."

The listless Lakers fell behind by 12 late in the third quarter but awoke to knot the game at 82. The Cavaliers regained control at 96-84, only to have it sliced to 99-97 after J.J. Hickson was called for goaltending on a basket by Gasol with 24.9 seconds left.

Parker hit two free throws before Lamar Odom's layup, and Sessions added two more from the stripe with 11.4 seconds left to make it 103- 99. After Bryant missed a three-pointer, Jamario Moon made one of two free throws to end the game.

"You couldn't ask for anything else than going into the break with a win against a great team like the Lakers," Sessions said.
