- Munich. With an exclusive Design Night on the evening of the first press day at Auto China in Beijing (April 23rd to May 2nd 2010), BMW provides an in-depth insight into its design philosophy and development strategy. The program of the BMW Design Night is modular in structure and presents extensive background information on the premium automobile manufacturer’s innovative design culture. In addition to highlighting the long versions of the BMW 5 Series developed specially for the Chinese market, the main focus is on an elegant 4-door vehicle with striking dynamic proportions: the BMW Concept Gran Coupé.
The concept study on display symbolises the outstanding design expertise of BMW. The BMW Concept Gran Coupé concentrates the fundamental values of the brand. Its body design authentically captures a sense of superior dynamic performance and high-quality elegance. The shaping style, which follows a coherent pattern down to the last detail, convincingly visualises BMW’s philosophy as an automobile manufacturer. As with the Concept CS 2007, BMW once again sets new benchmarks in the design of 4-door coupes with a distinctive sporty characte - The BMW Gran Coupe has been approved for production , the frameless windows will remain but the car still maintains a B-Pillar for Dynamic finesse.
The BMW Gran Coupe will be marketed as the... BMW 6er Gran Coupe.
Gran Coupe brings a new segment to BMW's portfolio and will spread to include other BMW models in the Future, just like Gran Turismo will.
This will bring a portfolio of three variants to the 6er , Coupe , Gran Coupe and Cabrio.
A Shooting Brake model to accompany the Gran Coupe has been designed and built for design and market evaluation.
The BMW Concept Gran Coupe will make it's European public debut later this year at the Paris Auto Show incidentally alongside another BMW Concept Car that will debut @ Paris.
The visual details of the front and rear of the Gran Coupe will be carried over to the new 6er Coupe - My Take on this car. I have to say I'm blown away. This is an extremly sleek car and in production ready form. It seems to be a Mercedes Benz CLS competitor but with much sleeker proportions and generally more refined with a keen attention to detail. The vast majority of the really stunning detail of the BMW Concept CS have been translated over to this car including the highly modern tailights which have been integrated well with the now standard BMW trunk design. The side character line and rear 1/4 panel is pure 5 series and that is a good thing as when you see that car in person it just stands out and is mean. From the front angle, what can be said, this is near perfection. Its highly elegant and agressive at the same time, mixing in refined elements such as 7-series like headlamps (that has a new sharper twist) with the pure agression of those wide gaping concept CS brake duct vents. LED foglamps and bezeled detailing in the ducts adds a very nice element of premium to the car. From the straight front angle, it seems we are looking directly in the eyes of the upcoming BMW 6-Series just as the BMW Z9 concept fortold the current generation 6-series. I would hope the rear follows suit as well
