England, Netherlands and Croatia scored victories in international friendly matches played on Wednesday.

England came from behind to beat Denmark 2-1 in Copenhagen, with Ashley Young scoring a second-half winner for a much-changed England side, following on from Darren Bent's goal after Liverpool defender Daniel Agger had headed Denmark ahead early on.

"I am happy for the result and the performance of my players, all of them," England manager Fabio Capello said.

The Netherlands were too strong for Austria, as they ran out comfortable 3-1 winners through goals from Wesley Sneijder, Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Dirk Kuyt, while Marko Arnautovic pulled one back for the visitors.

Belgium were held to a 1-1 by Finland, while Malta secured an unexpected goalless draw against Switzerland. Poland won 1-0 in Norway and Scotland secured a comfortable 3-0 victory against Northern Ireland.

In Cyprus, where Romania, Ukraine, Sweden and the hosts are playing an international tournament, both matches went to penalties, with Romania beating Cyprus on penalties after the match ended 1-1 after extra-time, while Ukraine beat Sweden in a shoot-out after the two sides were tied at 1-1.

Ivelin Popov scored two penalties to give Bulgaria a 2-2 draw against Estonia, while Slovenia won 2-1 at Albania.

Daniel da Mota scored twice in the second half to give Luxembourg a good 2-1 victory against World Cup finalists Slovakia, for whom Erik Jendrisek had opened the scoring ten minutes after the break.

In Abu Dhabi, Mohammad Reza Khalatbari scored a stunning 1-0 winner for Iran in the last minute of the game against the Russians, but was then promptly sent off for celebrating by taking off his shirt.

In Skopje Andongcho Mbuta was an unlikely match-winner for Cameroon's Indomitable Lions as his only goal of the match inflicted a first-ever defeat on Macedonia against African opposition.

The midfielder, who plays his club football for Crystal Palace Baltimore in the second division in the US, was playing his first game for Cameroon.

In Pula Croatia squandered a two-goal lead against the Czech Republic to allow the visitors back into the game, but two second- half goals from Nikola Kalinic and Ivo Ilicevic gave the Croats a 4-2 victory.

In other matches Latvia won 2-1 against Bolivia, Hungary beat Azerbaijan 2-0, Serbia beat Israel 2-0, while Turkey and South Korea played to a goalless draw.

Also on Wednesday Greece beat Canada 1-0, Kazakhstan and Belarus played to a 1-1 draw, while Georgia secured a 2-1 victory against Armenia.

In other games Liechtenstein managed a rare victory, albeit against minnows San Marino, who were beaten 1-0 through Michele Polverino's second-half goal, while Moldova beat Andorra 2-1 in a game both sides ended with ten players.
