Easy task for leaders AC Milan as chasers play hard

Serie A leaders AC Milan hope to benefit this weekend from a round of games that pits them against a modest opponent while their chasers play much tougher opposition.

With the season end 14 games away, the Devils have a three-point lead over Napoli ahead of their game at home to Parma on Saturday. Parma have lost seven of their 11 away games this season and should be no match for AC Milan.

Things look tougher for the Naples side when they visit Roma Saturday evening as the Rome hosts - lying 10 points from the top - seek a comeback after losing 5-3 at Inter Milan with one man dismissed.

Milan have dithered lately, with four draws in six games, which included dismal 1-1 scorelines against minnows Lecce and, last weekend, Genoa.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri displayed optimism despite the few goals from aces like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Brazilian Pato and Antonio Cassano.

"I knew we had to fight until the end for the scudetto," Allegri said. "Inter have lots of quality, like Napoli and Roma, but I worry about Milan and about getting back the many injured players.

"Particularly looking at the next weeks, when we will be back in contention also in the Champions League. At the moment we are still leading. It is normal that I feel we are the favourites for the scudetto."

Good news for Allegri is the return of play maker Andrea Pirlo, while defence mainstay Alessandro Nesta is close to recovery from a shoulder injury.

European champions Inter, meanwhile, are without Argentine striker Diego Milito for one month, but still have plenty of power upfront with Samuel Eto'o and new arrival Giampaolo Pazzini when they visit Juventus late Sunday.

The Serie A holders lie third, having cut a 13-point gap down to five, and can further advance when they play a game in hand at Fiorentina on Wednesday.

Juventus have slowed down their pace lately and lag 11 points from the top, partly due to the many injuries.

Veteran Alessandro del Piero and newcomer Alessandro Matri, who scored a brace last weekend, man the attack in the classic tie as coach Luigi Delneri misses Vincenzo Iaquinta, hopes to have back Luca Toni and has lost Fabio Quagliarella for the season.

Fourth-placed Lazio visit Brescia on Sunday, when Udinese play at Cesena and Palermo welcome Fiorentina.

Cagliari host Chievo, Sampdoria take on Bologna and Genoa play tail-enders Bari, while relegation is a threat for both Catania and Lecce ahead of their game.
