Spanish cup final to be staged in neutral Valencia

The final of the King's Cup between Barcelona and Real Madrid will be played in Valencia's Estadio Mestalla on April 20, the Spanish football federation confirmed Friday.

Both clubs preferred a neutral venue to playing the final at either Barca's Camp Nou or Real's Estadio Bernabeu, even though Mestalla - which is due to be demolished within two years - has a smaller capacity than the other two stadia.

Barca and Real will each be given 20,000 tickets to distribute among their fans. The demand for tickets is so massive that both clubs will probably organize a draw among the club members who want tickets.

The final will come just four days after the twin giants clash in Madrid in what promises to be a decisive league game. Barca are currently seven points ahead of Real atop La Liga.

They have not clashed in a cup final since 1990, when Johan Cruyff's Barca beat John Toshack's Real 2-0, also in Valencia.
