Thousands Evacuated From Paris Homes as WWII Bomb Defused

Bookmark and Share

PARIS -- An unexploded WWII bomb led to 6,000 people being evacuated from their homes in a Paris suburb Sunday.

Bomb disposal experts were working to make the massive 500 pound bomb safe after it was discovered Jan. 27 on the site of a former car factory, news website 20minutes reported.

Residents living within 400 meters (1,300 feet) of the device left their homes from 8:00am local time, with work due to start at 11:00am local time and set to last two hours.

The bomb was first discovered on a building site where a car factory used to be.

The factory was bombed repeatedly in 1942 and 1943 by Allied aircraft, as the site was producing car engines under control of the occupying Germans
